What a ride!

Goodreads Summary (read review only if you’ve read Stolen Songbird)

To say that I wasn’t expecting to like this book as much as I did would be an understatement.

Last year I picked up the first book in the Malediction Trilogy on a complete whim. I couldn’t sleep one night and was browsing through the kindle store, saw Stolen Songbird and decided it sounded like a cool little story and just bought it. And I enjoyed it! It wasn’t the best book that I read last year or even on my top 10 but I enjoyed it. Enough that when I saw that the sequel was available on netgalley, I immediately requested it and I’m SO glad that I did.

In Stolen Songbird Cecile’s journey takes place in Trollus, a city full of strong and dangerous trolls trapped under a mountain for hundreds of years by a witch named Anushka with malice in her heart. So at times the story could get a bit monotonous. There wasn’t much to discuss when there weren’t many places in which the characters could explore.

But all of that has changed in Hidden Huntress. Cecile is out of Trollus and with that freedom comes the possibility for so many things to happen, so many mysteries and so much fun.

Cecile is out of Trollus, staying in the city of Trianon with her mom Genevieve, living her dream. She’s performing on all of the greatest stages for the high society and living the life she’s always wanted to live. However she finds that she can’t be happy when the love of her life is still trapped under a mountain and the only way to free him is to find and kill a witch who has eluded discovery for half a millennium. Not to mention killing that witch would also free the trolls who would sooner see Cecile and the rest of the humans dead. Does she throw caution to the wind and free all of the trolls or does she live the rest of her life separated from the one she loves?

A letter from Anaïs, written as she watches over the injured Cécile.

Dearest Readers,

I confess, I was somewhat uncertain of how to address this letter. I am not Tristan or Marc, and I’m certainly not the twins, so if you are reading this believing to find some human-loving spark buried deep within my heart, please set aside those foolish hopes. You are human and I am a troll, and as such, I am superior to you in the way a dragon is a sparrow. You are not dear to me.

I am smiling while I reread my words, as I can see them undoing all the goodwill I’ve built with you over this brief chapter of my life where you were present. As though those few months and occasional meetings were enough for you to presume to know me. To know my story.

So why address your letter dearest, you ask? Why not to the creatures I look down upon or to those I grudgingly tolerate? Why write to us at all? The answer is this: while you are not dear to me, the cause you all profess to champion is more precious to me than my own life.

Surprised, aren’t you? How many of you believed that my every action was driven by my affection for Tristan? Please. Did you never stop to think that half the reason I loved him was because we fought for the same thing, if for different reasons? Tristan fights for the half-bloods and humans because he believes you are our equals. I fight for you because I believe it is the duty of the strong to protect those who are weak. And you have my father to thank for that.

Publication Date: June 2 2015

Beneath the mountain, the king’s reign of tyranny is absolute; the one troll with the capacity to challenge him is imprisoned for treason. Cécile has escaped the darkness of Trollus, but she learns all too quickly that she is not beyond the reach of the king’s power. Or his manipulation.

Recovered from her injuries, she now lives with her mother in Trianon and graces the opera stage every night. But by day she searches for the witch who has eluded the trolls for five hundred years. Whether she succeeds or fails, the costs to those she cares about will be high.

To find Anushka, she must delve into magic that is both dark and deadly. But the witch is a clever creature. And Cécile might not just be the hunter. She might also be the hunted…

I am not usually a fan of YA fantasy, but I picked up Stolen Songbird (the first book of this exciting trilogy) a couple months back and I really enjoyed it! I can’t wait to see where Danielle L Jensen would take her spellbinding characters in this one! Feel free to share your thoughts about this book and whether or not you think you’d pick it up!

Anonymous asked:

Has the release date for Hidden Huntress been pushed back? I saw on Amazon and B&N that it was June 30.

UPDATE - I’ve been told that the situation has been rectified, and the US HIDDEN HUNTRESS paperback will release at the same time as the eBook on June 2. It will take a bit for retailers to update the dates on their sites, but have no fear, the books will be ready! Some of you lucky ducks might even get them early ;-)

I will have more information about this in a couple days, but yes and no. The official release day for Hidden Huntress is still June 2, and the eBook will be available as well as the UK paperback edition. However, there was an issue with the printing of the U.S. edition, so the paperbacks will a bit delayed. The date you see on Amazon is just a placeholder. The books won’t be delayed that long. When I have more information on exact dates, I will let everyone know.
